by Barry MacHale and Sunny Beaver
We have lived in Bellingham’s Roosevelt neighborhood for 10 years. During that time, we’ve traveled the streets there by foot, bicycle, and automobile (in order of frequency). In December 2025/January 2026, we completed a systematic foot survey of the neighborhood, recording sidewalk data in a Google Sheet template Sunny designed. Roosevelt is bounded by Interstate 5, Whatcom Creek, Barkley Blvd., and Huron St. (the north and east boundaries zigzag between small streets at the borders with the Barkley and Alabama Hill neighborhoods). We count 37 streets within Roosevelt. Construction work was blocking a section of the east sidewalk on Verona St., between Alabama and Texas (2/2/26).
